Summer is here and so are the fun outdoor activities. You are out at the beach, barbecues, sports games, camping, etc. When you are out and about, you don’t always have time to brush your teeth. We know that. Yet, you still want to keep your teeth white and clean. Here are some tips to keeping your teeth fresh and clean during the summer fun.
Watch What You Eat:
If you are on the go, you’ll probably be snacking quite a bit. Did you know constant snacking is bad for your oral health and contributes to tooth decay? Summer is known for some unhealthy (fried) foods, so be careful if you do snack on these tempting treats. Try to choose tooth-friendly snacks, such as broccoli, carrots, seeds, nuts or apples. These foods serve as a natural toothbrush because of their abrasive texture. The food scrubs as you chew while removing bacteria and plaque.
Water and Gum:
Surprisingly, sugar free gum is really effective when you chew post meal. Chewing gum increases saliva flow in your mouth, which washes away food particles and neutralizes acids. The gum can also protect your back molars from cavities.
Water is also an effective way to keep your teeth sparkling. Water serves as an effective tool to rinse bad bacteria from your mouth, especially after meals. Also, many water sources have added fluoride, which is beneficial to your oral health.
Brush and Floss On-The-Go:
Obviously, you know you can do this. It’s tricky, but it can be done. Bringing travel sized toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss and stashing them in key places can make a major difference. Even if you don’t have time for toothpaste, a quick brush can be effective. For flossing, getting small, travel sized toothpicks help cut down on plaque buildup between your teeth. If you have down time, a quick floss can make brushing easier down the line.
Dentist Check Ups:
We know you can only do so much while you are on-the-go this summer. By staying up to date on your check ups, teeth are monitored. Our dentists will give you an effective plan for staying white on-the-go.
